Invisible

Oppressed by small-town life and the expectations of his widowed mother, an intelligent student (Gustaf Skarsgard) has dreams about running away to London to become a writer and nightmares about suicide. The quiet character study kicks into thriller mode when he runs afoul of a violent school bully (Tuva Novotny), then discovers that the people around him can no longer see or hear him. Codirectors Joel Bergvall and Simon Sandquist (whose 1998 short Victor was nominated for an Oscar) adroitly use the supernatural premise as a metaphor for adolescent alienation. In Swedish with subtitles. 95 min.
