Irish-American Heritage Festival Member Picks Early Warnings (Music)

The 24th annual Irish American Heritage Festival, held naturally enough at the Irish American Heritage Center (4626 N. Knox), runs Friday from 6 PM till midnight, Saturday from noon till midnight, and Sunday from noon till 11 PM. Friday’s highlights include a headlining set from the Tossers on the main stage and the always popular mashed-potato-eating contest. Saturday’s main-stage acts include the Screaming Orphans, Eileen Ivers & Immigrant Soul, and Searson, and throughout the day the festival presents dance workshops, sing-alongs, demos of Irish instruments, and a variety of vendors selling Irish and American food as well as Irish clothing, music, and jewelry. Sunday’s main-stage music includes the Makem & Spain Brothers and Celtic-rock darlings Gaelic Storm; among the other attractions are Ceili dance lessons in the McGinty Room, Irish poetry in the Third Floor Theatre, a Celtic pipe demonstration in the Folk Tent, and local Irish music on the Fifth Province Stage. —Kevin Warwick
