More light comedy and heavy armaments, in a sequel machine-tooled to replicate the 2008 original. The first third is terrific, with Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow striking sparks and a thrilling action sequence in which villain Mickey Rourke, outfitted with a pair of electric lashes, saunters around the track at the Grand Prix cutting racecars in half. After that the movie settles into a series of ho-hum conflicts and complications, and the requisite slam-bang ending is perfunctory at best. Jon Favreau directed; with Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson, and Garry Shandling.
