Jack O' Shea: Jungle Love

The program for this lame, lewd comedy from Hairy Callahan Productions and the Inner Below advises "Come Drunk!" and thanks the cast for their "willingness to do anything for the sake of the show." Fair warning. An intricate plot--a former Chicago detective searches for primates stolen from the London Zoo--effectively involves all 11 actors but serves merely as the frame for gross-out moments, such as a hermaphroditic ape sodomizing a hairy, chubby pimp (played unapologetically by the rabid Guy Schingoethe) and a doctor carving out and eating anal warts with a spoon. Writer-director-performer James Cooke appears to be aiming for a neonoir with the campiness of 70s porn--reinforced by bad acting and clunky choreography. But the show simply isn't funny enough.
