JedIraq: Meghan's First War The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through March 14 2010

Jason Burkett is a crafty enough dramatist to make a potentially creaky premise feel urgent. Disaffected college grad Keandra decides to fly to Iraq to understand the war her taxes help finance and coaxes self-absorbed college journalist Dustin to write articles based on her letters home. Is she naive, mad, or both? Is he irresponsibly encouraging her to endanger herself for his professional gain? Nice. But once Burkett sets his provocative tale in motion, his pedagogical impulses quash his dramatic instinct. He has his characters explain Iraqi politics all evening when they should be getting hit hard by reality. Given the whip-smart performances director Erik Parsons gets from his two-person cast in New Suit Theatre Company's debut production, it's clear they can handle a more demanding script. --Justin Hayford
