Jeeves in Bloom Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks The Short List (Theater)

When: Wednesdays, Fridays-Sundays. Continues through Feb. 28 2010

P.G. Wodehouse had a knack for creating amusing characters and setting them loose in complicated, clockwork plots. For that reason, his novels and short stories are ideally suited for stage adaptation. (Indeed, Wodehouse wrote a fair number of plays and books for musicals.) Adapted by Margaret Raether, this show finds Wodehouse's best-known creations, the nearly perfect valet Jeeves and his comically flawed employer Bertie Wooster, getting entangled in various situations romantic and financial while visiting Wooster's Aunt Dahlia. Christian Gray is a beguiling Wooster, playing well off Jim McCance's slightly too old Jeeves. The evening is diverting, if protracted--a little of this light, jazz-age comedy goes a long way. --Jack Helbig
