Jim and Dave ('s Blood Meets Jupiter) The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through July 6 2014

In seeming homage to Bill and Ted—another space-time traveling duo—Jim and Dave are a couple of doofs without much going on (B and T had air guitar, at least). Aliens talk them into heading into outer space, wackiness ensues. Sounds good as an hour-long late-night sketch show, perhaps, but as a full-blown musical the show falls short if not outright flat. Set pieces, including a spaceship disguised as a La Quinta Inn, take over much of the stage, trapping the actors like so many intergalactic blobs stuck in a crater. The cast is enthusiastic, but for the most part the overly zany actors are weighed down by puppets and slapdash blocking. "The universe is a giant cookie and we're all the crumbs," Jim and Dave sing at one point. Crummy it is. —Chloe Riley

Price: $25, $20 for students and seniors
