Jin-roh: The Wolf Brigade

The two main characters in this animated love-and-war story set in Tokyo in an alternate past (Nazi Germany won the war) have their reasons for suppressing their emotions. He's a member of a special unit of counterterrorist police, and she's the sister of a suicide bomber he was supposed to kill. Though the plot is deceptively twisted, the narrative structure is truly complex, using the characters' visions and memories as well as imagery drawn from “Little Red Riding Hood” to develop both a tentative romance and a nested conspiracy. Written by Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii; directed by Hiroyuki Okiura; with the voices of Michael Dobson and Moneca Stori (1999). 102 min.
