JT Nero, Sean Hayes Recommended Soundboard

When: Sat., Dec. 13, 10:30 p.m. 2008

Since moving here from Toledo, JT Nero has put out two albums with his band the Clouds, 2003’s Delilah and 2007’s The City’s Hot Yeah the City’s Hot. He’s just now getting around to his first effort under his own name, the self-released Demons/Demons, which includes several Clouds among its backing musicians. As you might expect, his solo material isn’t dramatically different from his band material—his Greenwich Village-style busker soul, caught between two generations of tragic Buckleys, mostly just sounds more mellow and intimate. It’s like he’s crowded everything on the record—guitar, piano, Mellotron, backup singers—right into your lap to serenade you with his ambivalent mating call. Love it or hate it, it’s physically impossible to feign indifference. Nero will be backed by the Clouds and a few guest musicians at this release party; Sean Hayes opens. —Monica Kendrick
