Kaja, I'll Kill You

Uniformed fascists arrive in an ancient, picture-perfect town on the Adriatic coast, and one of the villagers aligns himself with them, ultimately announcing his intention to murder his friend Kaja. This 1967 Croatian film is a total botch, its plot almost incomprehensible and its characters unconvincing. Director Vartoslav Mimica juxtaposes different angles within a scene so ineptly that the images never meld, and while the town's narrow, medieval streets are striking, his portentous use of them near the end is amateurish at best. 87 min.
