Streeterville branch of the popular sushi chain.
The service was cheerfully accommodating -- I brought you a miso, too, so you wouldnt be lonely, the waitress told my companion, whose order, unlike mine, didn't come with soup. When we accidentally lit one of our menus on fire, she laughed it off and said it happens all the time. And she was very patient when I was wracked with sushi indecision. In the end I opted for the standby of the undecided -- the combo plate -- plus an a la carte sea eel. An appetizer of plump shrimp shumai arrived steaming, with a smidge of wasabi mustard smeared on the side. My Kamehachi Combo offered all the standards - spicy tuna and California rolls plus one piece each of tuna, salmon, shrimp, and yellowtail -- but seemed a little skimpy for $19.95. My friend, who ordered a bunch of stuff a la carte, fared better. The Dragon Roll -- eel, softshell crab, and avocado -- was as delish (the crab added a nice crunch) as it was pretty to look at. The Sunshine Roll contained crab and salmon, with shiny beads of salty salmon roe on top. Our server recommended the fatty white tuna, which was buttery tasting and melted in my mouth. Stuffed with sushi and Sapporo, we finished the night with a rather mild cup of black coffee.
