Kate's Dates Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through July 14 2013

To attend this Waltzing Mechanics production, adapted from a blog by Kate Loftus, is to open yourself to a world where women who sleep with men on the first date are sluts, men who don't pay for dinner are losers, and nothing beats being "Facebook official." The cast consists of narrator Kate (Neala Barron), past Kate (Elise Spoerlein), all the assholes Kate dates (Spenser Davis), and finally a mysterious women in a purple vest (Ashley Alvarez), who, with the perky yet clinical voice of someone perpetually about to conduct a gynecological exam, steps forth periodically to administer some general rules of dating. Some of these, like "Men may be stupid, but women are crazy," are hard to swallow; others, like "Sometimes opportunity comes disguised as failure or disappointment," seem eerily diagnostic. — Hannah Gold
