Kill Shakespeare Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Mondays, Tuesdays, Sundays. Continues through April 1 2013

It's billed as a "living graphic novel," but this stage adaptation of a comic book series feels more like a slide show mashed up with a radio play. As artwork by Andy Belanger is projected onto two large screens, actors stationed at microphones read dialogue by Anthony Del Col and Conor McCreery. The story, which centers on an epic battle between Shakespeare's heroes and villains, features a band of baddies—led by a dashing Richard III and a busty Lady Macbeth—facing off against Othello, Juliet, Puck, and others. True to form, Hamlet can't decide which side to join, and Falstaff steals every scene he's in. Director Anderson Lawfer gets some fine voice-over work from the cast, but the script is as two-dimensional as the drawings. —Zac Thompson
