"Dad's rec room," my friend and I took to calling this place after we spent an evening watching a Sox game from one of the comfy if worn couches on a raised partition in the back of the bar. As the night went on the place grew crowded with actor types and twentysomething hipsters shooting pool, but it still felt cozy in our little oasis. The smallish menu is fairly standard—appetizers, sandwiches, burgers—but amusingly highlights something called a chicken chop. I tried the pizza, specifically a house special featuring eggplant and jalapeño, a combo I was looking forward to but ultimately a tad disappointed with—the toppings were surprisingly bland. Still, when the full-length windows open out onto the sidewalk in the summer, this always comfortable hangout becomes even more pleasant, and it's not unheard of for the friendly owner-bartender to offer a complimentary taste of his Turkish hooch.
