It's been nearly two years since Moses Harris Jr.—the Chicago-reared, LA-based MC better known as Kid Static—self-released his overlooked solo debut, Hypnotized, whose mix of jittery, eerie synth-pop, silky smooth hip-hop, and Harris's patois-inflected croon was a bit of a departure from his relatively aggressive work with rapper Yea Big. It'll be at least a couple months till he puts out his sophomore record, It Gleams (Cobra Music), but his 2010 collaborations with the Hood Internet—a seven-inch for Whistler Records and a verse on the Hood's remix of DVAS's "Society"—suggest another change in direction, toward a more ecstatic, anthemic style. —Leor Galil Kool Keith headlines; Kid Static, Phillip Morris, Second City Citizens, Kid Slim, and Dezert Eeze open.
