Lady in the Dark | Chicago Reader

Lady in the Dark

The Freud boom of the 1930s produced, among other strange things, a Broadway musical by Moss Hart and Kurt Weill about the Electra complex; by the time it reached the screen in 1944, most of Weill's music had been cut out, but there's still enough Technicolor delirium, under the direction of Mitchell Leisen, to make it an engaging curiosity item. Ginger Rogers is a New York fashion editor who can't choose among the three men in her life; a peek into her subconscious straightens things out. With Ray Milland, Warner Baxter, Jon Hall, and Mischa Auer.
