Lady on a Train

94 minutes

Deanna Durbin, caught at that awkward stage when Universal seemed to have no idea what to do with the rapidly maturing girl who had been the studio's biggest star in the 30s. Here, she's thrown into a lightweight mystery comedy, and she gets to sing a little. This 1945 picture is much more felicitous than Christmas Holiday, the bizarre film noir that followed, though not nearly as memorable. Charles David directed; with Ralph Bellamy, Edward Everett Horton, and Dan Duryea.
