Currently closed. Shrimp creole, knockout gumbo, and other Louisiana and southern classics, including cake in a jar.
This Creole-Cajun place in Auburn-Gresham started out as a catering and carryout joint only, but it now seats about 20 for dishes such as chicken or shrimp creole, an etouffee of the day, jambalaya, and a range of po'boys--shrimp, oyster, catfish, and soft-shell crab. Red beans and rice are available with or without a hunk of andouille, brought up from Louisiana; side dishes range from dirty rice (made what owner Mary Madison calls the authentic way, with chicken spleen) to "candy sweets," candied sweet potatoes. Madison offers a few more generally southern dishes as well--fried green tomatoes, Cajun grilled chicken, chicken wings and waffles, and pulled pork sandwiches. Banana pudding is the most popular dessert, but there's also sweet potato pie, peach cobbler, and cake in a jar (which is pretty much what it sounds like). Service is slow but courteous, and Lagniappe is BYOB.
