Le boucher

One of the best of Claude Chabrol's attempts to recapture the effects of a Hitchcock thriller in an antithetical context of naturalistic performances and closely observed social detail (1970). Jean Yanne is the village butcher with a sinister secret, and Stephane Audran is the schoolteacher who loves him. In French with subtitles.
