Lemonade Stand The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays. Continues through Feb. 10 2011

Jordan Scrivner's meditation on mortality and quantum physics gets stuck in a tiresome theatrical Mobius strip until its final ten minutes--and then the improvement is only slight. Astronaut Alex is headed for a moonwalk but instead finds himself on a beach where the comely Laura runs the titular business. Has he crossed over into an alternate universe, or are these the hallucinations of a dying man? As written, neither scenario builds sufficient stakes to hold interest. According to the program, it took three directors to mount this wooden, poorly paced production of a script laden with self-congratulatory Physics 101 jokes. (A professor who appears in the play for no discernible dramaturgical reason tells Alex, "You're the cat in the box.") Overall, a sour enterprise. --Kerry Reid
