Lessons You Can't Unlearn New Review (Theater and Comedy) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays. Continues through May 22 2014

First up in this sketch double bill is Oklahoma!: The Life and Times of West Reems, a one-man show starring Oklahoma native Tyler Parker. He presents both wistful nostalgia for home and some distanced reflection that's heavy on fried food and virgins dreaming about postmarital sex. It's heartfelt and fun, but too repetitive in structure, with a frequently used Chick-fil-A punch line. Second at bat with Summer Boys, Paul Chimko and Mike Malarkey also revisit the same scenes too much, examining those moments in life when you think you’ve really grown up. The best part comes early on at a sleepover, where they play two tweens snickering about those nasty topics (like licking your teacher's mole in exchange for video games) that come up when the lights go down. —Marissa Oberlander

Price: $10, $5 for students
