Let Me In

Rated R 115 minutes 2010

Cloverfield director Matt Reeves remakes the Swedish horror movie Let the Right One In (2008), about a bullied schoolboy living in a remote, sterile housing complex in the 1980s and the little girl next door who turns out to be a vampire. The setting has been changed to Los Alamos, New Mexico, which was founded in the 1940s as a planned community for the scientists building the atom bomb, and Reeves tosses in a few TV clips of President Reagan to reinforce whatever political point he thinks he's making. The language has been changed to English, of course, which is the only real reason this movie exists; the story development, desolate tone, and key set pieces are mostly copied from the original movie, which in turn was based on a novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist. With Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road), Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass), and Richard Jenkins (The Visitor).
