To the Editor:
Ed Gold seems to have a poor sense of what is funny. It is easy to find fault with what other people write, but he ought to look at his own writing. The 2/13/98 True Books column was a good example, specifically the book dealing with the colostomy. Ostomies are an uncomfortable subject for most people, or the source of snickering for people like Gold. But ostomies are life-saving surgery that need to find more public acceptance. Barbara Barrie writing a book about her experience with a colostomy helps make the topic of ostomies less taboo. An Ed Gold column doesn't seem to serve any purpose at all.
