This panel hopes to explore how the current state of literary content, form and criticism exemplary of the Platypus thesis of historical regression. Presentations will include analyses of modes of literary critique, genres such as realism and science fiction, the “political” imagination of contemporary literature and the stalling of innovative form/content of current literary practice. What, if anything, does literature, past and present, bring to light about society, politics and the possibility of emancipation?
