Living Colour, Sekond Skyn Recommended Member Picks Early Warnings (Music) Soundboard

When: Sun., Oct. 4, 8 p.m. 2009

If you lost track of Living Colour not long after their 1988 breakout album, Vivid, you probably didn’t miss as much as you think: they spent the last half of the 90s broken up, and since reuniting in 2000 they’ve released mostly live albums. Anyway it’s not like they’ve taken their music in some unexpected new direction in the intervening years—on their brand-new studio record, The Chair in the Doorway (Megaforce), they’re instantly recognizable, thanks to Corey Glover’s unmistakable singing and Vernon Reid’s equally unmistakable shredding. They’ve gotten a bit thrashier and gnarlier with age, and Glover’s voice is higher, a little more like H.R.—never a bad thing. Sekond Skyn opens. —Jessica Hopper
