Loggerheads | Chicago Reader

North Carolina native Tim Kirkman sets this well-meaning drama in his home state, awkwardly integrating three story lines that take place over two years. Kip Pardue plays a gay drifter who's sleeping on the beach and trying to conserve endangered loggerhead turtles. His birth mother (Bonnie Hunt), who gave him up for adoption, would love to make contact with him; his adoptive mother (Tess Harper), who's married to a Baptist minister, wouldn't. This has its sappy moments, but both women give wonderfully detailed performances, aided by Michael Learned as Hunt's mother and Chris Sarandon as the calm, cold minister. 95 min.
