When: Sat., Sept. 14, 4 p.m. 2013
When Los Crudos reunited in March—not their first reunion by any stretch, and obviously not their last—their doubleheader generated an almost painful level of anticipation, in part because presale tickets weren’t available and Facebook RSVPs for the two all-ages shows ran into the thousands. The revolutionary hardcore-punk band stayed loyal to their south-side turf with their choice of venue—ChiTown Futbol, an indoor soccer facility in Pilsen, the neighborhood where the community-conscious, politically fueled band was born in 1991, providing a crucial avenue for the Spanish-speaking Latino population (and not just in Chicago) to get down with short, loud, and fast. At the shows, front man Martin Sorrondeguy (also of queercore band Limp Wrist) did his damnedest to catch his breath between blasts of speed riffs and furious drumming that last maybe a minute apiece, and the room swelled and contracted with a surging, sweaty, asshole-to-elbow throng of nostalgia junkies and studded-jacket kids who definitely weren’t alive when Los Crudos wrote their first song. Today’s two shows, also all-ages, are at the same place, and because presales are over, you’ll have to pray you’re one of the 400 people per concert allowed to pay at the door (get there early). As an extra enticement, recently reunited west-coast powerviolence heroes Infest play just before Los Crudos, making their only midwest appearances in the foreseeable future (meaning probably ever). —Kevin Warwick Los Crudos headline, after sets by Infest and Hard Skin; Violent End and Gag Rag open the early show, and Fuck You Pay Me and the Repos open the late show.
