Loveless

In their first feature since Maryam (2002), director Ramin Serry and producer Shauna Lyon deliver a rambling but intriguing portrait of an aspiring indie filmmaker (Andrew von Urtz) as he tries to nail down financing—and a leading lady—for his next project. Though he's in a developing relationship with the woman who helps him raise money (Cindy Chastain), the glib, self-centered filmmaker becomes fixated on an elusive beauty (Genevieve Hudson-Price), and her weird, possessive family offers to bankroll his movie if he will first direct a tribute to their dead patriarch, with whom they believe they still communicate. Shot on location in Manhattan, this low-key, ironic comedy features a deliciously loopy turn by Scott Cohen as the dead man's creepy, obsessive son.
