Love's Labour's Lost | Oak Park Festival Theatre | Theater & Performance | Chicago Reader

Love's Labour's Lost Closing (Theater and Galleries) Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Aug. 21 2010

"What if Shakespeare wrote Sex and the City?" asks Oak Park Festival Theatre artistic director Jack Hickey. The result might be something like Love's Labour's Lost--the Bard's early, accessible mix of slapstick comedy and clever wordplay. The King of Navarre and his three noble pals vow to devote three years to study, only to find themselves bewitched by the charms of a French princess and her three ladies. After the silliness of misdirected letters and clandestine encounters, the lovers gain unexpected wisdom and maturity. Standouts in Hickey's playful and engaging outdoor production include Joseph Wycoff as foppish Berowne and Richard Henzel as Holofernes, a eccentric schoolmaster. --Marissa Oberlander
