To the editors:

A few weeks ago a friend sent me an article from the San Francisco Chronicle on "rock music's old glory days." The author lamented for paragraphs on his growing up with classics like the Beatles, Dylan, and Jimi Hendrix. "The music today," he said, "lacks the magic" of his era.

For two weeks I struggled to come up with the proper response; the one your article ["Boomed Out," July 31] gave me--shuddup!
