Lucas Gillan's Many Blessings

When: Wed., July 28, 10 p.m. 2010

Many Blessings is a young jazz group that finds a home in the meeting point between clever composition and fiery improvisation. The group owes a large debt to past jazz masters like Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman and Charles Mingus, but also reflects leader Lucas Gillan’s very contemporary viewpoint on the jazz tradition. A Tucson, AZ native who grew up playing as much punk, hardcore and indie rock as jazz, Gillan brings a diverse set of influences to his playing and writing. Completing the lineup is Marquis Hill on trumpet, Jonathon Edwards on baritone sax, and Darius Savage on bass.
