Four professionals in East LA discuss their love lives over tequila shots in a formulaic story that allows them to confront their own bigotry and other people's with humor, self-awareness, and sometimes rage. The subplots range from mostly comical (a clothing designer who's given up sex for Lent struggles with her brother's transvestism and homosexuality) to very serious (a lawyer reeling after discovering her husband's latest infidelity falls for the attorney representing a client's violent adversary). The lawyer is marvelously played by Evelina Fernandez, who wrote the screenplay based on her play; Fernandez's husband, Jose Luis Valenzuela, directed. With Marta Du Bois, Dyana Ortelli, Angela Moya, Scott Bakula, and producer Sal Lopez. 100 min.
