When: Thu., March 1, 10 p.m. 2012

Montreal beat maker Lunice Fermin Pierre II has remixed songs by Soulja Boy and Lil B, so it's tempting to try to place his output in the framework of the swag-rap movement. But you only have to listen to a couple of seconds of either of the two EPs he released last year, Stacker Upper and One Hunned (LuckyMe), to realize that it's far too narrow a category for him. Lunice has little regard for the boundaries dividing different rap sounds, or in fact for any kind of genre distinctions. A typical song might segue from modern trap rap into something like vintage Timbaland, and he's also likely to throw a big trance-techno keyboard or a dirty garage-rock organ into the mix. His frenetic live performances set a new standard for laptop-based entertainers. —Miles Raymer Ruckus, DJ the Tornado, and Jeff Pietro open.
