Lydia Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Recommended Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Nov. 9 2013

National Pastime Theater's production of Octavio Solis's gut-wrenching script finds a Mexican-American family coping with daughter Ceci's brain damage in a mysterious car accident. The Flores family can't see the secret hopes and fears inside Ceci's scarred head, but the audience does and so can Lydia, the family's new undocumented maid, played with poise and grit by Sarai Rodriguez. While many plot points are dark and harshly delivered, Lydia's stellar cast bring a vibrant humanity to the surprisingly relatable Flores family. Sindy Castro is otherworldly as Ceci, and Nelson Rodriguez is dynamic as her poetic brother Misha. —Marissa Oberlander
