Mac Blackout Band, Frustrations, Zed Recommended Soundboard

When: Thu., March 15, 9:30 p.m. 2012

The release last summer of Mickey's Rock 'n' Roll Dreamer (HoZac) seemed to mark the end of a journey for front man Mark "Mac Blackout" McKenzie, from the proudly sneering Functional Blackouts to a previously unthinkable level of slickness and accessibility. (Though in my opinion that record still hasn't been accessed by anywhere near as many people as it should.) But America Stole My Baby (Burka for Everybody), a Mac Blackout solo record released at about the same time, is a gloriously hissy chunk of wild-eyed sugar punk that proves McKenzie's heart remains planted firmly in the gutter. In December his Mac Blackout Band dropped a batch of demos that combine punk, new wave, glam, pop metal, and just about every other subgenre that's ever worn the term "trashy" as a badge of honor. —Miles Raymer Frustrations and ZED open..
