Make Me Love You; an Evolution of Love Closing (Theater and Galleries) New Review (Theater and Comedy) The Short List (Theater)

When: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Feb. 20 2011

A mash-up of Dante, Shakespeare, and Charles Bukowsi may seem a little cerebral for a romantic night out, but the Verge Theatre Company makes it work. Director Brandon Pape explores relationship chemistry through a montage of short plays, poems, and dances vaguely inspired by the five stages of grief and held together by an aura of youthful angst. The cast recites with vulnerability and clarity, and though the movement can look like glorified lunging, it also supplies a physicality that keeps the heady material from stagnating. Local indie folk-rock band Paper Thick Walls provide wistful ambiance. --Dan Jakes
