Making the case for books Agenda Member Picks Recommended

When: Fri., Nov. 9, 7 p.m. 2012

Open Books, a local nonprofit whose mission is literacy promotion, hosts the fund-raiser Make the Case 2012, where all are welcome to compete in a bookcase-decorating competition to transform ordinary bookcases into ones inspired by classic literature. (The judges are Bookslut managing editor and novelist Charles Blackstone, science writer Rebecca Skloot, and WBEZ reporter Anthony Martinez.) If you don't want to participate in the bookcase brawl (it's $500 to field a team), cheer on your favorite team while enjoying drinks, food, and music. The following week, Open Books will fill and donate the bookcases to partner nonprofit organizations.

Price: $40 includes appetizers, drinks, a raffle ticket, and a discount coupon to the Open Books bookstore
