Man Boobs Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through March 10 2012

There's a whiff of Terrence McNally's Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune in J. Julian Christopher's one-act about Marty and Spence, two gay men who find themselves revealing more than they'd planned to each other one late night after a date. The jokey title alludes to serious issues—body image, the scars of bullying and sexual abuse—and Christopher eventually lands in predictable show-me-yours-and-I'll-show-you-mine emotional territory. But before that, David Zak's unfussy staging for Pride Films and Plays frees Rick Heintz's Spence and Michael Hampton's Marty to engage in badinage that's unforced, truthful, and funny. The show is a smart, warm date-night option that ought to appeal especially to the non-gym bunny demographic. —Kerry Reid
