Manger Danger The Short List (Theater) Image Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Saturdays. Continues through Jan. 10 2015

Things are funny for many reasons—timing, topical awareness, sheer ridiculousness. All those solid foundations for good comedy apparently have been eschewed by this pH Comedy Christmas show in favor of obnoxious, whiny sketch comedy that at times goes out of its way to offend without even seeming to know why. The show's premise—that nondenominational holiday celebrations have been watered down to the point of being unrecognizable—should be rife with good opportunities for comedic commentary, but the cast instead offers lame scenarios like a conifer contemplating death and a Nick Nolte Christmas special (though Jason Geis's PC recitation of "A Visit From Saint Nicholas"—aka "'Twas the Night Before Christmas"—is enjoyable). Otherwise, things quickly degenerate into the lewd and racist, not exactly a winning recipe for nondenominational holiday cheer. —Chloe Riley
