Man's Best Frienemy New Review (Theater and Comedy) The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Sundays. Continues through Aug. 3 2014

One pines for the days of throwing rotten fruit at a bad performance. I could have used a steady supply of moldy tomatoes at the debut of this sketch show, which thankfully inflicts itself only once more before closing a short run at Stage 773. Misogynistic humor seems to be the plat du jour these days for inexperienced Chicago improv troupes, and Frienemy serves it forth with gusto. We get a Tinder date featuring a woman with uncontrollable flatulence, women who may as well be men talking about getting "balls deep" in a plate of nachos, and the vagina referred to (appropriately enough, for this show) as "old news." Audience silence punctuated much of this would-be comedy, which is really far more suited to a small, dark broom closet. —Chloe Riley
