Matt and Ben Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Saturdays. Continues through Dec. 13 2014

The lifelong bromance of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck is satirized in this 2002 comedy by Mindy Kaling and Brenda Withers. It takes place on a day in 1996 when the script for Good Will Hunting—which made the actors stars and won them Oscars for screenwriting—falls from the sky and onto Ben's coffee table. Kaling and Withers cleverly model their hour-long script on other plays about two dudes yoked together, including The Odd Couple, True West, and Waiting for Godot. The punch line is that this exploration of male friendship is performed by women. In First Floor Theater's production, Nora Bingham as Matt and Kate Healy as Ben excel at knockabout physical comedy, though the many pop culture jokes are already out of date. —Zac Thompson
