Meat Is Bad for the Earth

Pursuant to reading Nicholas Day's reviews of The River Cottage Meat Book and The Bloodless Revolution ["The Carnivore's Dilemma," July 13], it was evident that he preferred "conscientious meat-eating be[ing] better for people and animals than vegetarianism." He must have forgotten about global warming. The inhumane beef, pork, lamb, poultry, and fishing industries create massive air, water, and land pollution that perniciously exacerbate global warming. They also ravage marine and terrestrial ecosystems and fragile biodiversity. Vegetarianism is ecologically imperative for the planet's sustainability, and it's better for all the earth's inhabitants, especially, so-called "food animals."
