Meek Mill, Pha'Tal, Bag Muzik 17+ Early Warnings (Music) Recommended Soundboard

When: Sat., Jan. 19, 7 p.m. 2013

Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill spent a while in major-label purgatory after signing an unconsummated deal with T.I.’s Grand Hustle label in 2008, and he spent a little time in jail after that—but in 2011 he bounced back with some help from his new boss, Rick Ross, on “Tupac Back,” which became a respectable rap-radio hit and an underground mixtape smash. Last year Meek released the mixtape Dreamchasers 2, which proved that he can hold his own against formidable rappers such as Fabolous, French Montana, and Big Sean—and that “Tupac Back” was no fluke. One Dreamchasers 2 track, “Amen,” did double duty as the lead single from his official debut, Dreams and Nightmares (Warner Brothers), and with a verse by Drake, a chorus by Jeremih, and a churchy piano part propping up the charmingly blasphemous lyrics, it was one of the highlights of radio in 2012. —Miles Raymer Pha’tal and Bag Muzik open.
