NMemento Polonia | Though you needn't look far to find entertainment celebrating Jewish or Irish culture, you'll find few plays about the Polish-American experience. Playwright Jenni Lamb addresses that lack in her nostalgic account of Old World hardships--and pleasures--and New World aspirations. Though based on her own family's history, Lamb's 75-minute chronicle of the uneasy path from 1935 Bachowice to 1989 Detroit focuses on experiences common to all whose homelands are now a memory. Seventy-year-old narrator Beata tells the story through flashbacks, enlivened in Overdog Productions' show by ethnic songs and dances, onstage accordion music, and a mask-and-puppet presentation of an earthy folktale. --Mary Shen Barnidge
