Memoryhouse, Tiny Fireflies Recommended 18+ Early Warnings (Music) Soundboard

When: Tue., Feb. 28, 8 p.m. 2012

Over the past year, many of the best-known acts that were roped together under the chillwave banner in 2010 have released follow-ups to the albums that first brought them all that attention. It's been interesting to watch them react to the scrutiny—and to the knowledge that from the start the subgenre was widely considered to have an imminent sell-by date. Most of them have responded by playing up the things that set them apart from other chillwavers, so much so that they now hardly seem alike enough to file in the same category. In the case of Ontario duo Memoryhouse, who release The Slideshow Effect (Sub Pop) this week, that's meant becoming warmer, more organic, and generally more like something that would have driven the UK totally bananas in the 90s. —Miles Raymer Tiny Fireflies open.
