Messin' With Texas Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks

When: June 12-Sept. 11 2011

For international art and culture lovers who can’t afford to travel abroad this summer, the Hyde Park Art Center hosts Messin’ With Texas, an exhibition of artists hailing from Houston. A partnership with Houston’s Diverseworks Art Space, the show includes works by 2010 winners of the Artadia Award for “innovative and notable art practices”—including Nestor Topchy, who will make an installation out of pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs); traditional abstract painter David Aylsworth; and mixed-media assemblagist Nathaniel Donnett, whose work How Can You Love Me and Hate Me at the Same Time (a white sign that says “I am a meme”) makes him our favorite conflicted-about-the-Internet artist of the month. Mon-Thurs. 9 AM-8 PM; Fri-Sat 9 AM-5 PM, Sun noon-5 PM
