Million Dollar Quartet Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Recommended Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Wednesdays-Sundays. Continues through Feb. 8 2009

This crowd-pleaser salutes rock 'n' roll giants Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Re-creating a legendary jam session that took place at Sam Phillips's Memphis Recording Service on December 4, 1956, the show is basically a vehicle for crackling renditions of 20-plus classic tunes, including "Blue Suede Shoes," "That’s All Right," "Sixteen Tons," and "Great Balls of Fire." Eddie Clendening and Lance Guest offer credible impersonations of Presley and Cash, but Levi Kreis as Lewis and Rob Lyons as Perkins better convey their characters' fiery personalities and electrifying artistry. Kelly Lamont shines as Presley's singer girlfriend, and Brian McCaskill gives the show its emotional center as Phillips, a man caught between competing personal and business pressures. --Albert Williams
