To the editors:

Last winter I had the opportunity to hear Sister Teresita Weind ["A Silenced Woman," January 3] speak. When I learned that she was forced to resign and to take a position in [Michigan], I was disturbed that Chicago would lose such a gifted, peaceful woman due to church politics.

This event has made me look once again at women's second-class position in the church and ask myself why do I financially support such a system. I have come to the conclusion that it is time for me to stop donating to the archdiocese, an organization that doesn't respect and value women. Instead I will channel that money to groups that do.
