Modesty Blaise

Joseph Losey's 1966 send-up of the spy genre is in essence a send-up of a send-up. Losey himself refers to it as a mixture of bitterness, humor, and gaiety, but however it's taken, one is likely to miss some of the subtleties, which are as personal with their director as they are somber in intent. Dirk Bogarde and Monica Vitti star. 119 min.
