I found Peter Margasak's piece on John Hughes III [July 24] to be such a refreshing break from his usual remedial Ethnomusicology 101 lecture. It was inspiring to read how the son of someone who made millions documenting how painful it is growing up rich and white was now turning his father's money toward indie rock.
I was especially impressed by John's courageous tale of dropping out of school with nothing but a dream and his father's money to fall back on. I'm glad to hear that he and his father's money are committed to success.
I think this is a great new direction for Peter's column. I can think of so many local artists/
studio owners/managers/suck-ups who share the same burden of wealth. I'm sure their stories would be such an inspiration to all of us plebeians.
